Know Your Diabetes Risk Early

Aarav developed an AI-powered app that helps people understand their possible risk of Type 2 diabetes.

About Me - Aarav Gandra

Aarav here, I'm a gigh school senior interested in artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering, healthcare, and community service.

My experiences in AI, anatomy, business competitions, public speaking, and volunteering inspired me to create a project that combines technology with preventive healthcare.

Through a UT Dallas AI course, I learned Python, studied how AI models work, and began developing an AI-based diabetes risk prediction tool. A Rice University anatomy program helped me better understand the human body and strengthened my interest in biomedical engineering.

Outside the classroom, I have led healthcare projects, volunteered with children and families, competed in BPA and DECA, participated in Youth and Government, and tutored younger students in math. These experiences have taught me how to lead, communicate, solve problems, and serve others.

My Mission

My mission is to help people understand their possible risk of developing Type 2 diabetes before serious health problems begin.

Through AI early detection App, I want to make diabetes risk information easier to understand and more accessible.

My Research

Know Your Diabetes Risk Early
I've developed an AI-powered app to help people understand their risk of Type 2 diabetes. The app uses basic health, lifestyle, and family history information. It gives users a simple risk estimate. It also shows the factors that may be increasing their risk. The app is designed to make early awareness easier and more accessible. It can help people learn before serious health problems begin. It is especially useful for families who may not have easy access to regular screenings. The app also encourages users to build healthier habits and speak with a doctor when needed. It is an educational tool and does not replace medical advice or testing. Early awareness can help people take action before diabetes changes their lives.

Leadership

Founder and Chapter Leader — Cureco

Math Tutor

Youth and Government Participant

Created and led a chapter of Cureco, a student-run nonprofit that supports healthcare access for underserved communities.

Tutored elementary and middle school students in math, helping them strengthen foundational skills, prepare for advanced courses, and study for acceleration exams.

Presented and defended a bill addressing crop contamination and its effects on children and older adults.

My Activities

Volunteers Joining Hands

01

UT Dallas AI Course

Created an AI model and explored how artificial intelligence is used across different industries.

02

Rice University Anatomy Program

Studied human anatomy and worked with a team to create a final presentation explaining the structure and function of the human heart. The program strengthened my interest in biomedical engineering.

03

CAMP CAMP Volunteer

Completed approximately 150 volunteer hours supporting a person with special needs during a week-long camp. Helped the camper stay safe, participate in activities, adjust to the environment, and build friendships.

04

Business Professionals of America

Competed for two years and advanced to the state level in Basic Office Procedures. Also worked with team members on a financial analysis project.

05

DECA

Competed in business events for two years. Developed skills in marketing, business administration, public speaking, and answering questions under pressure.

06

NHS Volunteering

Volunteered at a McKinney food pantry and a children’s Halloween event. Helped pack food for families and led activities for children.
